CT Scan

Leading Hollywood Provider of CT SCAN Services

The Computed Tomography (CT) scan is a large, comfortable, donut-like structure that provides a 3-dimensional cross-section view with up to 100 times more clarity and accuracy than a conventional X-ray.

CT scans can be used for imaging any part of the body, but they are particularly useful for viewing precise details of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis.

Abdominal and pelvic CT scans are typically performed with the aid of contrast. This contrast can be consumed orally or injected intravenously. In both cases, the goal of the contrast is to highlight specific structures, organs, tissues, and fluids that the doctor wants to examine.

  1. If your CT scan is without contrast, no major preparation is needed. The exam appointment can even be scheduled the same day if available.
  2. If your CT scan is exam is with contrast, it means that an oral contrast or injection of a contrast agent into a vein in your hand or arm is required to improve visualization of abnormalities on the CT images. CT contrast is an iodine-based material that is extremely safe and typically has no side effects, though there is always the potential for allergic reaction. Therefore, there are 2 requirements for a CT scan with contrast:
    • No food: You need to be fasting for at least 4 hours to do the exam
    • If you are 60 years old or older, we need to review your latest lab test, including your creatinine and BUN range to ensure there is no risk of contrast reaction in your body. In preparation for the appointment, our representatives will request that you provide your lab test no older than 90 days.

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment to avoid any major delays.

You will check in the front desk, fill out questionnaires and consents, and make payments. You will be escorted to a procedure room, where you may be asked to change into a patient gown. The technologist will review with you the questionnaires and ask you additional questions. The technologist will position you on a cushioned table that will move into the donut-shaped scanner. After you have been properly positioned, the technologist will begin obtaining the CT images.

You may hear loud tapping and thumping sounds coming from inside the machine. While the images are obtained, you will be instructed to breathe normally but to lie as still as possible. The technologist will monitor you from another room. You will be able to speak to the technologist through a microphone, and the technologist will also be able to talk to you.

Generally, the average CT scan takes about 5-10 minutes in the scan room when no contrast agents are necessary. When IV contrast is required, you can expect to add an additional 10-15 minutes to the overall procedure. Oral contrast for an abdominal or abdominal and pelvic CT can add an hour or 2.

  1. CT scan without contrast: These exams may take from 10 to 15 minutes.
  2. CT scan with oral contrast (Abdomen and Pelvis): These exams may take 1 to 2 hours.
  3. CT scan with IV contrast: These exams may take up to 30 minutes.

The technologist will advise when the exam is done, and you will be escorted back to the front desk reception.

You can request a copy of the images on a CD before you leave so you can share it with any doctor.

Yes, for a small additional fee you can get additional copies.

The results will be done within 48 hours and will be delivered both to you and your doctor through email or fax.
